Thai ’09 Journal 5

Today was traveling day for the rest of the team, Kelli Edwards left early Wednesday morning from Los Angeles, and arrived first. She didn’t have to wait the 12 hours for the rest, because the University was picking up someone else this morning, and brought her to the campus. Those flying out of Portland (Carol Hargreaves and her sister Evelyn Caldwell, Joselyn Garcia, and Emma Brueske) were not that fortunate. There was bad weather in San Francisco, and by the time they arrived the flight to Japan had left. They will come in tomorrow. The rest of the team (Scott Holste, Tenielle Teske, Jon Bennit, Chadwick Young, and Miriama Aumavae), coming from Los Angeles and Seattle arrived after 11:00pm… It is now 3:00am Friday morning here, and I just got word that those in SF are just boarding the flight.

Today we visited the English teachers at the Public School and worked out the details for the English Camp. Camp will be from 8:00 – 12:00 and will have about 80 students each day. Each of our team members will work alongside a student or teacher from the University.

The day was topped off with the Dean of the School of Nursing and 2 of the teachers stopping by to see me, and to bring me Durian and Mangosteen fruits. It was such a delight to see them. And they really miss our students this year. They especially miss Fred Troutman and Kim. We all really had a good time last year. They also mentioned that the villagers were disappointed that the nursing students weren’t coming. They were preparing for them to hold the evening meetings and give the health talks again this year. I promised that we will work hard to have another team next year.
