Rotary International Convention: Day 2

A full and awesome day! Three great speeches at the plenary session: First, a Catholic priest told of his work with the poor street children in the Philippines. Second, a young Rotarian spoke of his involvement in peacemaking between the Turkish and Greek Cypriots on the divided island of Cyprus. Finally, Greg Mortenson (author of “Three Cups of Tea”) gave a stimulating presentation (including a video) on his work on educating kids (especially girls) in Afghanistan. The President’s luncheon was a lovely affair; and I got in on a picture with him and his wife. The day ended with a 4-hour dinner cruise on the St. Lawrence River. The fellowship and table discussions (especially of future partnerships in International Service) during these times are most valuable. I’m returning with a stack of business cards (and of course I shared my new Rotary card just as generously). And… what a spectacular sunset over the St. Lawrence, and the city! As always there are lots of pics: http://www.wallawalla.edu/campus-life/spiritual-life/gallery/rotary_international_convention_2010
