Thai Journal #4

If you are from Rotary and you are just now getting to reading the blogs, you may wish to skip this blog and scroll down to journals 2 and 3 in which I talk about my Rotary expeditions. But of course you are welcome to read all my blog entries.

I’m now at Mission College to accomplish the primary task for which I came to Thailand. I will speak in the mornings and in the evenings, everyday (a total of 13 different presentations) for their “Festival of Faith.” We had a good start today, Monday. (Remember that we are 14 hours ahead of the west coast of North America. So now I’m getting ready to go to bed on Monday night, while my wife is just now waking up on Monday morning.)

As you can see from the photos, the campus is absolutely lovely. Tomorrow, I will take photos of the inside of buildings. But the outside is gorgeous whether at day or at night.

Every now and then someone asks me about my classes while I’m away on these missionary endeavors. My answer is that these appointments are usually made one to 2 years in advance, and I structure my syllabus so that my teaching is primary and the students get their full quota of classroom and research experience. For example, this quarter I’m teaching in Portland on Mondays. I taught last Monday and flew out on Tuesday. Today they are taking their Mid-term exams, which are being proctored by someone from the School of Nursing. I’ll be back in Portland to teach next Monday!
