Thai Journal #6

On Wednesday evening Susan Schaffenberg invited all the WWU alumni working here to her home for dinner. Believe it or not there are seven! We had a great time. I brought them up to date on the happenings around campus and around the Valley. I’m going to write Ed Ammon, our Alumni Director (and incidentally, Mayor of our City) to let him know that the responsible thing to do is to have the Alumni Association cover part of the expenses of this trip since I conducted a Thailand chapter meeting of the Walla Walla University Alumni Association :).

Today I began discussion as to what the rest of the team will be doing next summer on our mission trip here. The tentative plans are for us to assist in the English classes in the public schools in the surrounding towns and villages, and possibly conducting English camps after school hours. We are also looking into the possibility of doing some community service in a nearby rural area. Tomorrow evening we will hash this out over supper with folks from the English and Education departments, and the assistant Chaplain who just returned from an English camp mission trip with MC students on the border of Thailand and Laos. Keep tuned.
