Thailand Journal 6 – Aug. 28, 2019

Another “wow” day! Thanks Alicia for the devotional thought and prayer. We finally had a day that begun without rain or drizzle, so the students at the elementary school were able to meet outside for the opening exercises; and we were able to have the formal welcome and introductions. The big event at the school today was the planting of trees in honor of the king’s birthday. On the farm, history was made. When we arrived, Uncle Prasarn was outside in his wheel chair weeding by the pepper field! In all the years we have never experience this; and he has never looked that strong! Nang sister brought more food – fried ripe bananas, fried sweet potato balls, and jackfruit. We finished weeding the pepper plot, and will move to another section of the farm tomorrow. In the
afternoon we made the trek to Tesco Lotus and the Premium Outlet Mall across the highway. Starbucks is always a favorite place for the students. They are always especially intrigued with that Starbucks’ collection of mugs. The prices of things at the Mall are more than the regular Thai places; but the bargains are awesome. I got 4 name-brand shoes for $100.00! Great dinner at one of our hangouts near the campus. Americans always have a problem with whole fried fish with the head still attached. They shudder at the head being eaten with the eyes looking at them! Last year I found the Wednesday night market. This year the team gave good business to the vendor selling wraps. The day ended with the traditional durian-tasting-party in my room. No one was totally disgusted by the smell or taste. This is quite a team! Really awesome!
