Asia Journal ’24 - #10
The final night of the Tribal Gathering was amazing. They not only highlighted the indigenous instruments but included other aspects of the cultures in the actions in worship. The energy reminded me of revival and
evangelistic meetings in the Caribbean. And like these here, those in the Caribbean and Latin America are choruses and coritos that are born out of the local culture which have their roots in Africa and the global south. I got to see more of Malaysia, from the poorer sections to the mansions on the hills. I worshiped at a couple churches. They also are trying to incorporate indigenous elements in their services. The food continues to be good, from those in fancy restaurants to those in outdoor food courts. I especially love the rice-dish in the claypot. The “bun-bun” (burnt, in Jamaica), “pegao” (in Puerto Rico), was delicious!
