Thailand Mission and Cultural Trip 2013 – Journal 5
Got
to bed last night at 4:00am and was up at 7:30am with a full day ahead of
me/us. Kalene remembered the wonderful massages from last year ($6.00 for an
awesome hour); so we headed into town. But they were closed today. We took the
time to explore the town and the market. Those of you who were here before will
appreciate the photos on my photo website. After lunch I do a detailed
orientation; and we had the President, VP for Student Administration, Dean of
Deans, and Dean of Elijah Hall stop by. Then on to Tesco Lotus! As usual we
stopped by the big
Fruit stand for a cultural tasting-experience. Of course
that experience extended at our dinner at our usual pizza hangout where the
veggie delight has corn in the topping; and the Swensen’s ice cream. But we
didn’t do the Hurricane with 8 scoops of ice cream in one dish and everyone
eating out of it! The top experience was the Durian tasting. Zoe’s face (below) says it
all! We ended the day with Vespers at the Auditorium. It was worthwhile; but
many of us were knocking in and out (for Jamaicans, “bucking down de place”).
Remember we got in at 3:00am; and Vespers was at 5:00am Pacific Coast time –
for many the time for the sweetest sleep!

1 Comments:
Take heart, Zoe. Even Andrew Zimmern couldn't get durian down.
