Thailand Mission and Cultural Trip 2015 - Journal 6
After a weekend of cultural adventures, with the aim of getting
over the jetlag, we were ready to put in some hard labor. And that we did! We
begin each day with morning devotional led by a team
member. Then we go to the
school where part of the team help the students to practice their English. This
morning they introduced us to the entire student body and faculty.
The rest of us then take off for the farm. In tow were 2
bags of dog food. The job for today was preparing the soil and planting dragon
fruit. The ground was solid clay, as hard as dried bricks. But the sun was not
out and blaring down on us; and it was actually the coolest day that I have
experience ever while working on the farm.
At noon we joined the rest of the team at the English Camp School
for lunch, which the school had prepared for us.
This afternoon Fred and the Nursing faculty arranged for us
to visit, hear a lecture, and tour a health
center that focuses on natural
medicine. Lots of the plants they grow and use are found all over Jamaica and
the Caribbean, including June plum and sorrel.
Two of the team member got massages in the afternoon, while
the rest of the team mozzed around the little town of Muak Lek. We ended the
day at the Monday Night Market.
