Thailand Journal 8 – Sept. 1

It was interesting to watch the discipline at the Elementary school.
During the opening ceremonies, the Principal would walk around with a cane and smack the guys who were out of line on their bums. Those who were late were called up in front of every one and given one smack. It was more a punishment of shaming than actual physical hurt. The Principal also walked around with a scissors and clipped off a chunk of the hair of the girls who had it below their ear. No matter what you think about the method, the bottom-line is, in this culture they are taught to be disciplined. The love continues between students and our team members. The latter are not only getting presents, but getting kisses!
On the farm, Kiana joined the team.  It was a good day to join. The temperature was 77 degrees and overcast. We spent the morning fixing the top of the poles for the dragon fruit. The field that we worked in, was the one we worked in last year planting and tying up the stalks. Some of the team members from last year wished to know how that field was coming along. I saw at least one plant with a fruit. So, many of them have caught. This evening the School of Nursing faculty took me out for a lovely meal. Then we stopped by the side of the road and got Thai pancakes (like crepes with lots of condensed milk) for the team members.
