I first visited Chiangmai Adventist Academy in 2003 when we
began thinking of making Thailand a long-term partner in culture and mission.
In 2005 the team from Walla Walla College spent 2 weeks assisting in building
the Elementary School dorm, conducting a Week of Prayer (culminating with 13 baptisms),
and conducting Continuing Education classes for the teachers. Today, many of
the old buildings are gone, a new boy’s dorm is being built, lovely new
classrooms with lots of laptops have brought the school into the 21st
century. They have over 1000 students! As I visited from classroom to classroom
(even grade 3), I promoted Walla Walla University – with vigor! Thanks Nid for
your kindness in facilitating the visit.
In the afternoon I visited the LaWa Hostel,
with children from the Wa ethnic group originating from Myanmar (Burma). This
was WW Noon Rotary’s first Thailand project, over 15 years ago. We have
upgraded their kitchen, bathrooms, and pure drinking water system;

provided
computers, and annually award their high school graduates a total of $1000.00 for College scholarships. It goes a long way. Thanks Alan and Joan for your
graciousness all day.
