Asia Journal ’26 - #2:
Began off the day with breakfast at the Treasurer's house and then went to do an interview with a Hindu Ashram. Tomorrow evening, we will visit his temple and experience their worship. Spent the rest of the morning at the church headquarters in conversation with officers and staff. Lovely lunch with the Treasurer’s family. All the food thus far is classic Indian. Spicy and tasty. In the afternoon and evening, we traveled a far distance for the installation of a new pastor. It was a wonderful service with true Indian instruments and
singing. A real culturally relevant service in so many ways. It was a perfect experience for my research.
They invited me to preach. I preached an Elijah sermon from the “top of my head.” The service ended at about 9:30pm and from there we walked through the village to the home of one of the members for dinner, which finished about almost 11pm. I’m sorry it was night since I could not capture the nice houses, pens for the cattle, narrow concrete pathways – all compactly constructed. Driving in India is a unique experience. Almost all the trucks have big signs on the back urging vehicles to BLOW THE HORN! And at nights, to flash the bright lights. Here the important thing is NOT to look out for the other vehicle but to listen! It’s a cultural experience in which those who know what to do, know what they are doing! I love it!
