Thailand Mission and Cultural Trip 2013 – Journal 10

Fred and Pedrito

Today the color was pink! I loved it. The team chose the 5 colors for the t-shirts, which we rotate every 5 days. It is a great way for those we interact with to identify the team members. It also helps with the challenge of dressing appropriately in a more conservative culture. Additionally, we can only wear certain colors at the Tiger Temple. No bright colors. The tigers do not like it! But today we could wear pink. I have always loved rose pink, and I was happy that the team chose it, and I’m delighted that the other two males on the team love

wearing it! Real men are comfortable in pink!

On the farm, we continue to weed the corn, and most likely will keep doing the same thing for the rest of the time. Those on the farm are very quiet. Claire and Kalene are introverts and silent for most of the time; Jeremiah listens to his itunes; I communicate with the earth! For the break we had coconut water and the jelly inside, using a chip off of the side of the coconut as a spoon to scrap out the inside.

The team members at the High School were jealous that I gave the

farm-workers ice-cream bars yesterday for their break. But today they got a 20-minutes break and the Staff served snacks and tea! Every day the Staff also provides a lunch for the entire team (including the farm team) – and they go out of the way to provide vegetarian dished for those who request it.

Massage center
Every afternoon some of the team members have a massage at what everyone says is the best massage place. Lana was skeptical; but she tried it today, and admitted that it was the best one she ever had. For one and a half hour massage the cost is only $10.00 (US)!

After the evening English Camp, the AIU Faculty of Nursing took Fred and myself out for a lovely dinner. They are the finest group of folks you would wish to have as friends. Delightful!

Coconut water using a chip from the husk as a spoon! Nothing like it. That is a classic picture.
