Thailand Mission and Cultural Trip 2013 – Journal 8

First day at the farm

The days of rest are over and we began work today. Fred is participating in the rural villages with the School of Nursing with the students and faculty, in the course Community Nursing. Four of us are on the farm and the other seven are at the High School conducting the English Camp with the over 200 seventh-graders.
At the farm we began to weed a 5-acre plot of corn. The four of us and Nang will never finish it in 2 weeks. But we are making a go at it. At least today the weather was not as hot and muggy. But who am I to talk!
The team who are teachers had a lot of fun at the
English Camp
school. If you look at the photo you will notice the fancy banner that they made, with the great photos of the English Camp we conducted last year. They had a special ceremony in which the Director of the school welcomed us. They then fed us, including those who worked on the farm.
My frustrations with the internet continued. But Jeremiah, who is a Computer Science major, came to the rescue, and got it fixed. The afternoons are free, and at times some of the team head into town to explore and/or to get a massage. Three did that – one and a half hours of massage for about $10.00!
The Culture Fair ended with a wonderful food fair. I gave each of our team about $6.00 worth of coupons, and we could hardly finish them. We will try and use them up tomorrow in the cafeteria. Because of the Fair, the organizers of the evening English Camp, cancelled for tonight and
Dr Loren and Dr Wayne and wives
we will start that tomorrow. We ended the day at the Monday night market; but we were late. They were closing up. Tomorrow night is the big Tuesday market.
