Today was the last day of work on the farm. Since we started
we weeded a total of 80 rows! It was a good feeling to have been able to cover
such a wide area.
We started a tradition last year, and continued today – having
dinner at Cabbages and Condoms Khao Yai Resort on the final Friday. This year we
added to the experience: the crossing of the lake on a rope. Crazy! Doug and Suzan
Logan joined us and had a great time.

Now, I know many of you
are wondering about such a place. Here is the scoop: Condoms are not their main
emphasis. And although the food is great, neither is that their focus. They are
a population and community development association. According to their website
(
http://www.cabbagesandcondoms.com/index.php),
they operate a wide variety of programs designed to serve and assist the rural
poor in Thailand. These programs cover such diverse activities as free vasectomies,
income generating programs at village level, forest replanting schemes,
vegetable banks, industry relocation into rural areas, mobile health clinics,
environmental education programs, and a democracy project. Check out the site;
and if you come to Thailand visit the big and lovely restaurant in Bangkok, or
this fabulous resort only 15 kilometers from the University.
The day ended with a wonderful musical Vespers. Tomorrow is
a full day of Community service in a nearby village.
