Thai ’09 Journal 16
We finished the shed on the farm and reaped more custard apple (sweet sop). At the High School we continued working with the 8th graders. Kelli joined Jon with the nurses. Today’s focus was again on the Dengue Fever. They participated in the parade in the village. The new project this afternoon was door –to-door visitation in the heart of the city of Muak Lek. As part of the University Church’s evangelistic outreach, the Language Center is involved in a 2 month project of going door-to-door with a 3-fold purpose: First to give an invitation to come and learn English at the Language Center; second to inquire about their health; and third to survey what other pressing needs the person or family has. They also take the opportunity to talk about the University, and how much is known about it. I and Carol and Evelyn joined the group this afternoon. We were divided into 3 groups. The area that my group visited was slum. But what an exciting time we had! I’ll be back tomorrow and others of the WWU team will join us. It was Friendship evangelism at its basic best. Instead of imposing an external model of evangelism, we were laying the basic grounding by inquiring about the felt-needs and making friends.
