Thailand Journal 21 – Sept. 15, 2022
I usually visit Chiang Mai every three or four years in order to meet with the Rotary leadership and visit and audit the International Service projects (in addition to the WWU projects that was reported earlier, of course). This year we wanted to have a meeting with the club. Thus, I stay after the Muak Lek trip for the meeting today. However, post-COVID their schedule changed. They meet in person twice per month, once on zoom, and one week on service projects. They change their schedule to cater to my visit; and today was the service day. So, we had a Rotary
meeting all day! In the morning we visited one of the seven hospitals which received equipment for palliative care from the global grant. Then visited a patient in the community who was suffering from a distended belly and needed regular care both at the hospital and at home – all part of the grant. In the afternoon, we visited the school for the deaf to consider a proposal for improving the bathroom facilities. I was hoping to catch an earlier flight to Bangkok; but every seat was taken. So, my exceptional host, Jarruwat, took me on a tour of the 700+ year-old city, and the famous pagoda. I’m now waiting on the flight to Bangkok; and will wake up very early in the morning to catch the flight home.
