Asia Journal 7
Lots of walking today: visited a couple of churches; a Christian cemetery; an old walled-city; and drove to a Lutheran Theological Seminary and it adjoining retreat center for interfaith dialogue between Christianity and Buddhism. Loved the gift shop collection of ceramic plates depicting Jesus as Confucius and other Biblical
characters as Chinese. The other standouts for the day was first, the conversation at the Baptist church with IWS alums Nelson Wong and Yolanda Liu, and the challenges in doing cross cultural worship at a mega church like the one the serve. It was interesting to see the stained-glass windows in the pastor’s office – an influence from one of his classes at IWS. Last standout was dinner with two visionaries, friends of Yat Hin: Anthony (founder of Cantonhymn, pioneer of Cantonese hymns), and Harold (founder of Hypersonic Lab, a worship renewal movement). Brilliant minds, and futuristic in their visions.
