Jamaica Journal 2023:
Fifty years ago, I met two wonderful little girls at Andrews University. I called them daughters, they called me father ever since. Beth and Margaret Johnston. For Margaret’s significant birthday milestone this year, her husband, Kevin (and son Sam) wished to take her to Jamaica, and invited Vie and myself to be their tour guides. Beth and her husband Lyndon, joined us. It was a glorious week at the Bahia Principe in Runaway Bay. We took them to Dunns River Falls; the street market in St. Anne’s Bay; craft market in Ocho Rios; Green Grotto caves; through the central hill country (Browns Town; Spauldings, etc.) on the way to Mandeville. We gave them a comprehensive tour of NCU (Northern
Caribbean University, our alma mater), and President Lincoln Edwards welcomed them in his office with a stimulating conversation. They were impressed. Vie’s sister, Yvonne (and husband, Dave) served us a delightful lunch. We spent a little time with Ronnie and Pat Henry, Dolly and Orlando Moncrieffe, Amy Sinclair, and Mitchel Bryce. Visited my mother’s grave. Rafting on the Martha Brae river was delightful. On Sabbath we drove into Kingston to worship and my childhood church, Rollington Town. Visited Port Royal; drove all over the Kingston and St. Andrew metropolis; and ended with a delicious Sabbath dinner at Erma and Pops Hutton’s home. It was a most unforgettable trip…. And the tropical foods and fruits made it super special and memorable!
